Spread the love with a card for Jaimie

I am following along with the Spread the Love blog hope which starts
here. This is for 11 year old Jaimie Cates who has been the victim of a horrible crime. Here is some information about what happened:

"On October 4th, 4 teenagers armed with knives broke into a home in a small town in New Hampshire. Alone and sleeping inside were a mother and her 11 year old daughter. These 4 boys broke into this home with the intent to rob and kill anyone inside. They stabbed the mom, Kimberly Cates, to death and left her daughter, Jaimie, for dead in their driveway. It was a completely random act, their home was chosen only due to its secluded surroundings."

Reading about these crimes completely breaks my heart. What kind of monsters would do such a thing? I hope everyone will join the hop and pray for Jaimie and her father...I can't imagine what life must be like for them now. All it takes is one unsuspecting moment to change your life forever...you must cherish everyday!

Along the hop they are asking that you make a card for Jaimie sharing some words of strength and love to let her know that people all over the world do care!
Please send your card to the address below:

Jaimie Cates
c/o Mont Vernon Fire Station
Main Street
Mont Vernon, NH 03057
United States

And this is the card I made for Jaimie. I was told she isn't a very girly girl but does like the colors hot pink and black. The image and paper are freebies I got off Splitcoast Stampers. I colored with my Kimberely watercolor pencils and painted glitter on black cardstock. Embellishments from my stash and sentiment hand doodled.

I am also entering this card into the following challenges:
Get Sketchy #12 - sketch
Saturday Spotlight - In so many words (background paper)
Creative Inspirations - doodling (sentiment)
Digital-Ink Co. - colors (two different pinks, blue (you can see this in my glitter) and green.
Digital Tuesday - flowers

Glue Review

This is the UHU twisted up which creates a bigger and flatter surface.

This is the UHU not twisted which gives you a smaller more precise application tip.

And from left to right we have the UHU glue dot roller, K&Company glue runner and Scotch glue runner.

First of all according to the new FTC guidelines I must state that I was sent both UHU products for free in exchange for my honest feedback. Here is the website.

Now for my review...
I am out of the Scotch glue runner which I purchased at Wal-Mart for about $5 give or take. This was my first experience using a glue runner and thought it was just okay. Then while shopping at Hobby Lobby they had a big sale on adhesives so I picked up the K&Company brand for about $3...BIG DIFFERENCE!!! Now on my latest project (the last post) I used the UHU products! They worked pretty good...the twist and glue worked great for the toilet paper and didn't make it all mushy...I tried the glue runner and BIG MISTAKE! Take it from me...don't try it on TP at home! LOL! On the paper part I found the UHU dot runner to work really well...it seemed to glide easily even on uneven surfaces unlike the Scotch brand which seemed to never work right. If I had a ever so slight uneven spot the Scotch brand would just skip glueing that part...complete pain! The one thing the UHU dot roller is missing is maybe a hint of tint to let me see where the glue is...that is what the K&Company has..they tinted it a light pink which allows me to see where I put the glue. When I looked closely in the light it seemed that some of the UHU dots were missing in certain spots (maybe I didn't hold it evenly) but it didn't affect the stickiness at all....worked just fine! I tried to use the widest part of the UHU twisted glue (when you twist it up) but it seemed a tad bit runny. Just a little messy for my liking. I have never used a glue like this so that is a new one for me and I don't have anything to compare it to but overall I think it would work just fine. I especially like the option of being able to use a fine tip or a braod tip.

So within all this babble I came up with these pros and cons....

UHU dot glue runner
Pros: Glides evenly, able to use on uneven surfaces, holds tight
Cons: Sometimes misses some dots (although not enough to even worry about) and is not tinted

UHU twist and glue
Pros: Versatile fine and broad tip, doesn't wrinkle paper, good bond (hey I even tested on toilet paper and that stuff is hard to work with but this did great!)
Cons: A bit runny

K&Company glue runner
Pros: Glides evenly, able to use on uneven surfaces, holds tight, tinted
Cons: None that I can think of...so far my favorite glue runner

Scotch glue runner
Pros: Available at your local Wal-Mart, holds tight
Cons: Does not work on uneven surfaces and is not tinted, tougher to roll...compared to the other two just very poor quality in general. I probably wasted a bunch just trying to get it to work half the time!

Well, that is all for today. I hope you enjoyed my glue review! This was actually my first review ever so if you liked it let me know and if I could of done something differently to make it better I would like to know that also.

Thanks for stopping by!

Interesting item used on card!

Can you guess what the unique item I used is??? TP!! Yep, good ol' TP! So I must say it is NOT easy to work with at all...everything I tried just wasn't turning out right. Maybe it was the brand I used or maybe I just don't know what I'm doing...probably a good combination of both! LOL! This card is actually for Angie's dad who was diagnosed with cancer. Her site is here. If you want to send a card just e-mail her for the address...I'm sure they would really appreciate the thought! At first I was going to do a masculine card but then I thought it is really the entire family that is dealing with this so I thought flowers would be a good idea. Men and women both like flowers!! I colored the image with my Copics...still improving on my blending! :) Covered it with paint on glitter for that added sparkle. Then I rolled up some TP and mounted it in an X pattern and sponged with matching purple ink. I thought the X was good for respresenting the cancer to go away!! I wish the best for him and his family!

Challenges:
Everything But The Kitchen Sink Challenge - Use TP
CPS 140 - sketch
Lily-Boo Too - purple

Just a little warning....

I just got news about someone going around and leaving unpleasant comments on others blogs and they could be impersonating a friend of yours. I actually read about this today on a challenge blog I usually visit. If you click on the link it takes you to a site that looks like one you might be following but BEWARE it is not that person it is an impersonator!! So if you think you are receiving nasty comments from myself or any of your other friends please be aware that it is an impersonator!! I just wanted to give you a heads up about this and assure you that I would never EVER do this to anyone...no nasty comments allowed! :) It might be nice to let your friend know too if you happen to get a nasty gram just so they know what is going on!

Thanks for reading and I hope whoever is doing this STOPS!!! It is not nice!

Dollar Store

Where oh where does the time go?? I haven't posted since Friday!! I still don't have a card done for today but I did want to show you some stuff I picked up at the local dollar store. Can you believe they sell this for only $1? So, are there dollars stores where you live?...really curious as to those that live internationally!
